Harry Amass’ future update given after Manchester United loanee returns from Sheffield Wednesday

Harry Amass’ six-month loan deal with Sheffield Wednesday has expired, and the Manchester United starlet’s future remains up in the air.

After not being a part of former manager Ruben Amorim’s pre-season tour squad last summer, Harry Amass was allowed to leave the club on loan.

Despite finding himself at struggling championship side Sheffield Wednesday, he took to life in one of the most physically demanding leagues like a duck to water.

The 18-year-old was rewarded with his scintillating performances by winning Wednesday’s player of the month for November and December, as well as scoring one goal during his time in Yorkshire.

His loan agreement expired on 6 January due to Wednesday’s instability, so the young full-back has since returned to Manchester United. Following his good form, Amass’ future could be elsewhere for the remainder of the season.

Wedensday doing everything to keep Amass

According to Football Insider, Wednesday are pushing to keep Amass for the remainder of the season and are doing everything in their power to convince both player and parent club.

However, they are set to face competition from other Championship clubs for his services.

Most notably, Football Insider have reported that eighth-place Stoke City, among other clubs have made contact with United over a loan deal as they push for a place in the play-offs.

It has also been reported that, while there is potential for a move to the top end of the championship, neither United nor the player has ruled out all possibilities. The door has still, therefore, been left open for a return to his former Yorkshire side.

More players should follow Amass

Despite starting a few games last season for United, Amass has taken the big leap to play professional football regularly, rather than sit on the sidelines.

This is a path that his peers and other players in future should take more advantage of. Playing under-18 or under-23 football can only do so much for a player’s development until they begin to stagnate.

Taking the daunting risk at a young age to consistently play men’s football will do wonders for the development of young talent at all levels.

Not only do they mature and learn the physical side of the game, but they also develop off the pitch, as moving to a new place and living on their own helps them grow as individuals.

Not all loans will work out like Ethan Wheatley’s to Walsall last season, and not all loan moves will go as well as Amass’s, but it should be essential for all young players who are currently not in the window for first-team squad places.

Even if they do not impress enough to join the first team after their loan, the experience they gain will help them secure moves should their future lie elsewhere, similar to Ethan Laird, who has become an established player for Birmingham City.
