“Good player…” – Manager breaks silence on Manchester United midfielder as January move depends on ‘several factors’

One manager has been speaking about a ‘good’ Manchester United midfielder who could be making a January move to his club.

Manchester United sit seventh in the Premier League after 21 matches, but their campaign has been defined by uneven performances and fluctuating results.

Ruben Amorim has recently been dismissed as head coach, with Darren Fletcher stepping in as interim manager for the next games while the search for a caretaker boss continues.

Although it is uncertain whether United will add to their squad during the January transfer window, there is expected to be continued speculation around possible exits.

The club is also set to review its young talents, determining which prospects could benefit most from loan spells away from Old Trafford to gain regular first-team experience.

Manager breaks silence on United midfielder

Rumours emerged in December surrounding Sekou Kone and the potential of the young midfielder heading out on loan in January.

The Mali-youth international has spent his time with the Under-21s since arriving at the club in 2024 but looks to be set to head out on loan to INEOS-owned club Lausanne Sport.

Kone has been pictured training with the Swiss outfit this week and their manager, Peter Zeidler, has been asked about the situation with the United youngster.

Zeidler revealed: “Yes, he’s (Sekou Kone) been with us for a few days, we know he’s a good player and we’ve been watching him closely. He’ll play with us on Thursday against Xamax or Nyon.

“I don’t really like that term,” he added when asked whether Kone was currently on trial at the club. “It doesn’t reflect reality.

“He’s with us, we can observe him closely, and we’ll make a decision, just like we did last summer with Enzo Kana-Biyik, a very good young player who improved a lot in just a few months with us despite his early-season injury, and who also belongs to Manchester United.

“We saw his quality, particularly with his assist against Fiorentina. We have good experience with Enzo, so why not with Sekou Koné? But to say today whether he’ll come, I don’t know. It depends on several factors; we’ll decide between January 15th and February 15th, as with all players.”

Is this the right move for Kone?

With the likes of Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher clearly ahead of him, with both players appearing on the first-team bench in recent weeks, it seems like the right decision for Kone to go on loan.

It remains to be seen whether moving to Switzerland is the correct move for him, however, with some arguing that he should play in a more competitive league.

The positives of a move to Lausanne Sport are that Kone’s development can be more closely tracked and guided due to both clubs being owned by INEOS.

He will be guaranteed game-time at the Swiss outfit and it looks like that is going to be the move that happens for the young midfielder.
