“Go and break the bank…” – Manchester United receive transfer advice about ideal Ruben Amorim striker signing

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has given his verdict on which forwards the club should look to sign this summer.

With Manchester United’s goalscoring woes being there for all to see, it is becoming increasingly evident that Ruben Amorim’s side will need some attacking reinforcements in the upcoming summer transfer window.

This season, United have only mustered 38 Premier League goals, which is on track to be a record low for the club, with their current lowest tally being 49 goals in their 2013/14 campaign.

Their attacking spearheads Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have suffered a lot of backlash due to their contributions, with the pair scoring three goals each in the league this season.

The lack of goalscoring prowess for The Red’s has begged the question, who should Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team be eyeing up this summer? Teddy Sheringham gave his opinion on this recently.

Who does Sheringham see fit to lead the United line?

The former United striker was recently asked, “if you’re Ruben Amorim, who would you sign, Viktor Gyokeres or Matheus Cunha?”

To which Sheringham replied, “If it’s between Cunha or Gyokeres, just for the fact of the experience of the Premier League, I would go for Cunha.

“Gyokeres might have done it in the Portuguese league and he’s scoring goals and he’s confident but all he needs to do is come in like Hojlund and not get any service for four games and start getting battered and it’s “who have we bought?”

The former England international went on to say, “You need a leader. You need a top player to stick his chest out and go like Cantona and I did when we came to Man United and just say, I was born to play at this place. Not ‘will I make it at this place?’.”

Sheringham seeking Kane for United

Once Sheringham was done on the topic of Cunha and Gyokeres, he quickly moved on to talk about Harry Kane, and said that United need to ‘break the bank’ for the clinical goalscorer.

“That’s why you need to go and get a player like Harry Kane. That’s what United used to do, they used to go and sign the best players on the market… Go and break the bank and get Harry Kane still,” he added.

The 31-year-old striker, who clearly has an admirer in Sheringham, has scored 23 goals and assisted seven in 29 games this season as he aims to finally end his trophy drought.

Sheringham’s final thoughts were that Harry Kane would say, “Give me the ball, give me some service and I’ll score some goals. You do your job, and you do your job, and we’ll have half a football team here.”

If Manchester United were to lure Kane away from the Bavarian giants, it would surely take a massive transfer fee, but this is a move that the 1999 Champions League winner thinks is worth making.
