Manchester United lost 2-1 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, and Gary Neville was critical of one player in the game.

The Reds put in another poor display as they were deserved losers in the clash at the City Ground.

Erik ten Hag ends the year with his side collecting fewer goals than points in the 2023/24 campaign, which is worrying.

However, there were problems at the back in this game, with United giving away two easy goals.

Neville was particularly critical of Andre Onana during the first half when the goalkeeper sent a wayward pass into the sky.

Raphael Varane expertly brought the ball down, but the mistake prompted the former United captain to make a harsh judgement on the goalkeeper’s ball-playing ability.

“Onana came with a reputation for being really good on the ball, but l just don’t think he is that good on the ball,” said Neville whilst on Sky Sports commentary. “He is so erratic.”

The Cameroon international was signed in the summer from Inter Milan to replace David de Gea, who was often criticised for his ball-playing abilities.

Onana has previously shown the positives that he can offer a team in the build-up for both Inter and Ajax under Ten Hag.

He has also shown those abilities at United, albeit not on a consistent enough basis. He played a wonderful long pass to launch an attack for his side earlier on in the game against Forest.

However, it could also be argued that he could’ve made a better attempt for both of the Forest goals.
