Gary Neville has shocked Manchester United supporters by revealing some key details being the process of finding the next head coach at Old Trafford.
Manchester United seem to be in a strong position under Michael Carrick after recording four consecutive wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.
Those results have firmly placed the club in contention for a top-four finish, with the added benefit of a lighter schedule due to the lack of European commitments.
The impact of the managerial change is becoming increasingly clear. There had been ongoing concerns about the squad’s suitability to Ruben Amorim’s system.
Now, United appear more cohesive, with Carrick getting improved performances from some of the team’s most influential players.
Neville shocks fans by revealing key details behind United’s managerial process
Carrick is making a good impression in the hot-seat at Old Trafford but the plan currently remains that he will leave at the end of the season when United find a permanent replacement head coach.
There hasn’t been much information shared about INEOS’ recruitment process but Gary Neville has provided some key details this week.
Speaking on his podcast, Neville revealed that he had spoken to figures at the club about their hunt for the next United head coach and they explained that the search had already begun.
Neville stated: “I asked the club ‘what is the official position of the football club in terms of what you’re saying publicly to everybody else?’ And I thought their answer was pretty good. They said ‘we’ve actually begun our process now of starting to look for another manager.’
“That’s good to hear, so they’ve started the process of speaking to and looking at other managers, building all the data and analysis of who should be the next manager of the football club.
“What they’ve said is they’re not going to be bounced into, irrespective of wins or draws or losses on the pitch in this next couple of months, making an appointment.
“They’re going to wait towards the end of the season… if Michael Carrick at that point makes himself available for the job and says ‘I want to put my name in the hat’, like in any other recruitment role in the country, Carrick would go into a process versus the likes of Tuchel and all of the others that will be available in the summer.”
United planning the right way
United seem to be planning in the right way. Carrick should not immediately be the favourite option after a good run of form but it also shouldn’t be impossible that he gets the job.
There could be top managers available in the summer and United are going to consider them if they do want the job.

But on the other hand, there has been a lot of talk about managers like Eddie Howe, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva. Many would claim that Carrick should be ahead of those names in the process.
It does feel like a huge risk to bring in a head coach like that when we have seen so many mid-table managers crumble at bigger clubs – Thomas Frank at Spurs is the latest example – when you have someone who knows the club inside-out like Carrick.
