Gary Neville names three managers he admires following Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd sacking, “a fantastic coach…”

Gary Neville has spoken out after Ruben Amorim was sacked from Manchester United, naming three admirable candidates to takeover Old Trafford.

Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim on Monday morning. The sacking followed an icy press conference after United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road.

The 40-year-old was reportedly under pressure after a stretch of poor form for the Red Devils, with only one win in their last five fixtures in the Premier League. Amorim sent a heated message to the club officials, emphasising that he aimed to be the manager of Man United rather than just a head coach.

United have appointed former midfielder Darren Fletcher to take the wheel of the first team for at least one or two matches, stepping away from his role as United’s under 18s coach.

Speculation over who will become United’s next boss has grown. Meanwhile, former red, Gary Neville has named his three potential fits to step into Old Trafford.

Gary Neville names three managers for United job

It was inevitable that former United captain and now pundit, Gary Neville, spoke out about who should step into Amorim’s shoes, after he was very vocal and honest in his views for the Portuguese manager.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the former England international named three coaches that he admires over naming the definitive replacement that he would want to see.

“I think it would be wrong of me to name it [who should be next manager].

“There are coaches that I like. I like [Thomas] Tuchel. I like [Diego] Simeone, Atlético Madrid. I like [Ernesto] Valverde. I think Valverde is a fantastic coach.

“But are there really opportunities for Manchester United to go and get these coaches? I don’t know. I have no idea.

“But the most important thing is that Manchester United Scouting Department, Recruitment Department, Sporting Director, have not their eyes open.”

Have Simeone and Valverde been performing well this season?

Diego Simeone has become a staple piece of Atlético Madrid, as the second-longest serving manager for a single club in Europe’s top five leagues with 14 years.

His side are currently on a run of five games unbeaten, as they sit in fourth in La Liga ahead of a Supercopa De Espana semi final against rivals Real Madrid.

Simeone’s passion is undeniable, taking pride in building a disciplined squad; however, the defensive style of play may not suit the needs of the fans who would like to see the fast, free-flowing football that was shown under the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Meanwhile, Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club sit in eighth in La Liga with a Champions League finish looking unlikely. They also have a Supercopa De Espana semi-final against Barcelona.

Valverde would be familiar with Old Trafford, but he has sour memories after his side were on the losing end of a 7-1 scoreline on aggregate against Amorim in the Europa League semi-final.
