Gary Neville reckons one Rúben Amorim decision as Manchester United faced Bournemouth in the Premier League spells the end for a star player at Old Trafford.

Manchester United were stunned by a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, leaving Rúben Amorim’s side stuck in 13th place in the Premier League table.

Both teams started with intent, battling for control, but Bournemouth landed the first blow. Dean Huijsen rose highest to meet a set piece, his looping header exposing United’s ongoing defensive frailties.

Bruno Fernandes spearheaded United’s response late in the first half, but despite his best efforts, the hosts couldn’t find an equalizer and entered the break trailing 1-0.

Amorim made attacking changes in the second half, looking to spark a comeback. However, Bournemouth stayed organized and ruthless. A clumsy challenge by Noussair Mazraoui handed Justin Kluivert a penalty in the 60th minute, which he converted with ease.

Just moments later, Antoine Semenyo struck again for the visitors, delivering a decisive third goal. United pushed forward in desperation, but Bournemouth, led by Andoni Iraola, stood firm to secure a sensational away victory, deepening United’s woes.

Neville thinks Rashford’s United career is now over

Ahead of the game, it was confirmed that star winger Marcus Rashford had again been left out of Amorim’s squad, having also missed the Manchester City and Tottenham ties the week prior, citing “selection” as the reason on each occasion.

Last week, a major interview dropped where the 27-year-old admitted he feels he wants a new challenge after spending the last nine seasons as a first-team player at Old Trafford.

Ahead of the Bournemouth loss, former United captain Gary Neville explained he feels Rashford’s time at the club is now ending after Amorim chose to leave him out of the squad for a third successive time.

“It is not really big team news any more,” Neville told Sky Sports when asked for his reaction to the news. “It is something of a norm, a pattern [that] has developed over the last week. It was a surprise last weekend.

“It is getting to the point where you leave him out three games on the bounce something really is obviously going wrong or has gone wrong and it is not looking great for both Marcus’s future at the club or Manchester United keeping him either.

“I suspect it is getting to that point in the journey where it has got an inevitable ending.”

Neville then added: “It is a distraction for the manager. It does become obvious that he probably has to leave and that the club want him to leave — it will probably work for both parties.

“There are good examples as well of players who have struggled at United… Jadon Sancho has gone to Chelsea and is doing better. Scott McTominay wasn’t struggling but he left to go to Napoli, and he is doing well, so Marcus might think it is the right thing for him as well.”
