There has been a lot of talk surrounding Manchester United and their chances at a shot at the Premier League title in recent weeks.

Manchester United currently sit eight points behind Arsenal in the league table in fourth place, tied with Newcastle for points and three behind Manchester City, all be it a game behind Newcastle and one ahead of Arsenal.

United have been in brilliant form as of late, winning every single fixture since the return of domestic football in December, right up to Wednesday evening, where a brilliant free kick from Michael Olise stunned David de Gea to put an end to United’s winning run with a 1-1 draw.

Gary Neville, when asked on Sky Sports if Manchester United are realistically in with a shot at winning the league, explained that they are not due to insufficient firepower up front.

“I still don’t think they are, personally,” Neville explained. “I think they are short compared to the other teams, but the fact that we are talking about this (is a positive sign).

“I was really annoyed the other night (against Crystal Palace) with that last minute goal they conceded, I’m sure they were as well. They didn’t work really clinically in the game, and they are just a little bit short up front.”

Neville explained that it’s the lack of a threatening front line that hinders United’s chances, but that if you compare now to the start of the season, the difference Erik ten Hag has made is hugely significant.

“You think of Weghorst coming in, he was a stop gap, the other (teams in the title race) seem to have more fire power,” he said. “But United, from where they were at the start of the season, are in a really good position and I’m really looking forwards to today, it should be a great game.”

Roy Keane, also speaking to Sky Sports, said that if United don’t defeat Arsenal, fans can “forget” about United lifting the Premier League trophy this May – but a win could see them launch themselves into the mix.

“Can they get in the mix of of winning the title? You would have been told you’re mad saying that a few months ago. But if they can come and win here today, it’s a big ask, they are very much in the mix,” he said.

“Anything less than a win [against Arsenal] and you can certainly forget about United for the title.”
