Gary Neville’s brutal verdict on “rubbish” Man United star during Spurs defeat
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed Marcus Rashford for setting a low standard against Spurs on Sunday.
Rashford, 26, returned to the starting eleven as United would be dominated in a 3-0 defeat at home against Tottenham.
Conceding the first goal of the game after just three minutes, it was Rashford who gave the ball away, allowing Spurs defender Micky van de Ven to run most of the pitch and square the ball to Dominic Solanke for an easy finish.
With the Red Devils failing to get back into the Premier League game, it was that early mistake by Rashford that Neville believes set the tone for the rest of his teammates.
Discussing Spurs’ opener, the pundit said the following on commentary for Sky Sports:
“Rubbish from him [Rashford].” He later added: “Marcus Rashford it’s poor to be honest, his touch is heavy and awful and he’s got to do better than that. [He has to do better] Even if he dives in and gives a foul away.”
Despite his condemnation of Rashford, Neville also praised Van de Ven for his starring moment.
The former Manchester United captain would remark the following: “Brilliant, absolutely brilliant from Van de Ven. One of the best runs I’ve ever seen from a centre-back.”
Manchester United’s defeat to Spurs leaves the Red Devils in the bottom half of the Premier League, with Erik ten Hag’s side languishing in twelfth place.
Six games into the season, United have just seven points, and have scored just five goals.
They will next face Porto away in their second Europa League game of the season, before travelling to Aston Villa next Sunday in the Premier League.
