Gareth Southgate provides injury update on Marcus Rashford after Man Utd star’s collision during England game
Marcus Rashford was replaced shortly after a collision with Trent Alexander-Arnold for England on Friday evening during their 2-0 win against Malta.
The Manchester United forward was down in pain after a full-speed Alexander-Arnold ran into him following miscommunication from the England duo.
It was a moment that would worry United fans on a night when Andre Onana was also forced off the pitch for Cameroon.
However, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate has provided a positive update on United’s no.10 after the game concluded.
Asked about Rashford’s potential injury in his press conference, Southgate replied: “I think he’s probably okay but we just thought given the nature of the collision, it was a chance to get Cole [Palmer] into the game.
“Yeah, I haven’t assessed too much but I think he was okay when he came off.”
Cole Palmer replaced the United forward to make his England debut following a strong spell of form for club side Chelsea.
Rashford is in the midst of a struggling campaign at Old Trafford, with just one goal to his name. He scored a career-high 30 last term but has been unable to recreate that form so far this season.
The 26-year-old was pictured leaving Wembley on Friday evening and appeared to look fine as he will have one eye on the game against Everton next weekend when Erik ten Hag’s side return to action.
He will not be available for the following clash against Galatasaray in the Champions League after his sending-off against Copenhagen last time out in the competition.
