Andre Onana heaps praise on two Man United stars after win vs Fulham
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has rubbished rumours that there is unrest within the Old Trafford dressing room and praised two players after victory against Fulham.
The Premier League clash was a must-win for Erik ten Hag’s side and they came away with three points after a last-minute winner from Bruno Fernandes.
Onana did his job at the other end of the pitch as well, making several strong saves as he’s looking more confident following a shaky start to the campaign.
It was substitute Facundo Pellistri, though, who created the only goal of the game with his intensity on the right wing.
The youngster replaced Antony midway through the second half and brought a more direct approach to United’s flank.
His pressure against fullback Antonee Robinson in the last minutes caused panic within the Fulham backline before he eventually played the ball to Fernandes, who then turned excellently to shoot and score.
Pellistri wasn’t the only impressive winger on the day, however, as Aleajndro Garnacho played a positive 90 minutes and was undeservedly robbed of a great assist by VAR.
Onana took the time after the game when speaking to reporters to praise the young pair whilst insisting that the victory was crucial for the team.
“They are great players; they bring a lot of energy, team spirit, they fight,” said Onana of Garancho and Pellistri. “Today was not to play football; you want to try to play from the back when possible.
“Today, it was just important for us to win because we always demand high standards. When you are playing for Manchester United, you always have to try to win.
“They came in and did a very good job. I am very happy for them, and now it is time to focus on the next game. It is going to be a fight there. We are Manchester United, and we are going to be ready for them.”
The victory follows immense external pressure on Ten Hag, with reports coming left, right and centre about the doubts within the dressing room about the manager.
The United goalkeeper, however, stated that the team is together ahead of an important upcoming period for the club.
“You have to fight for every game. Sometimes we make mistakes; this is part of life, but this club, we will always fight and try our best to go for everything,” he added.
“I hope we are going to win a lot of titles, even if you have to play against other big clubs. We showed a lot of character and I am happy for the willingness. We are together. The celebrations say everything.”
