The full details behind Man United’s double bid for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui
Manchester United have seen a double-bid for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui rejected by Bayern Munich this week.
The Reds have added Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee to their first team, as well as super-talented 16-year-old Chido Obi Martin.
However, further changes are needed to Erik ten Hag’s squad and the leadership at Old Trafford are trying to get their work done before the start of the Premier League season.
Matthijs de Ligt seems to be a priority, especially after the injury to Yoro during pre-season.
Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui could be viewed as an upgrade on the departing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and can also play at left-back when needed.
It was revealed by David Ornstein that United submitted an opening double-offer for the pair on Thursday and there was optimism at United and among the players’ representatives that it would satisfy the Bundesliga giants.
However, the proposal was rejected, and Bayern Munich told the Reds that they would need to reach a higher fee to come to an agreement.
It was explained that this caused “some bemusement” in the camps of De Ligt and Mazraoui, who are both represented by the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta.
This was based on their understanding of what would be required to get a deal over the line after the Bundesliga club informed both players that they were not part of future plans and would compromise on fees to help any transfers go through.
The report added that this led to the player’s camps to ask Bayern whether their stance on their exits had changed, and they were met with the same response from the German club.
With personal terms agreed with both players and Bayern clearly wanting to sell, United hold the cards in these negotiations. Other options have also reportedly been sounded out over recent weeks, but it is clear that these two are United’s priorities.
The Reds will be hoping that both signings are in place for the Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday, 16 August.
