Former Manchester United youth player Brandon Williams could face a prison sentence, less than a year after being released by Premier League club.
A Premier League star who was once tipped to reach the top, and was an England youth international, has now admitted to dangerous driving, and could face up to two years in prison.
Brandon Williams, 24, who made 51 appearances in his time as a Manchester United first-team player, before heading on loan to Ipswich in the 2023/24 season, has since been released and found himself in a world of trouble.
The former United left-back was spotted driving at a speed peaking as high as 99mph in an Audi A3 in Cheshire on August 20th 2023, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
He had to be treated for injuries before being taken into the Middlewich custody suite, where he later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without a third-party insurance. The maximum punishment given is two years custody.
Williams causes central reservation collision
The former United player, who was contracted to the club at the time of the incident, has been without a team since the summer, and has recently been in the news for his off-the-pitch activities.
The 24-year-old was at the Red Devils from the age of seven, and saw his 17 years of service come to an end when his contract wasn’t renewed in Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s first summer in charge of football operations.
Williams was joined by a female passenger, who was spotted recording at one point in their journey. As witnesses stated, it was clear that the car was out of control.
Due to the nature of the driving, at 6:17pm, Williams’ Audi A3 collided with a Blue Ford Fiesta before crashing into the central reservation.
Williams to be sentenced in coming months
This resulted in extensive damage to Williams’ Audi A3, as well as damage to the offside of the Blue Ford Fiesta that was left with a missing wheel. The central reservation was also damaged heavily.
Williams was breathalysed but his test result came back negative. He was also seen driving erratically with a balloon to his mouth.
The former England youth star released a prepared statement, where he admitted to driving the Audi but claimed that the car wasn’t out of control, and that he was forced to swerve due to the actions of another driver, who which he blamed the crash on.
On the 14th March 2025, Williams pleaded guilty to both charges of dangerous driving and driving without third party insurance. He will be sentenced at the later date of 9th May 2025.
