Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has helped to raise £30,000 in a charity event with a sleepover event with over 120 people inside Old Trafford
Manchester United hosted a great community event which they say hosted over 120 people to raise awareness around poverty and homelessness, raising money to help towards the Manchester United Foundation and their projects for the community.
Former United defender, Wes Brown, spent the full night under the stars on the Old Trafford floor spending a cold November evening in a sleeping bag surrounded by one of the most iconic stadiums in football.
Meanwhile, other former United players, Michael Carrick and Phil Jones participated in a question-and-answer session to help do their bit for the community.
Manchester United Foundation Sleep Out
The event took place on Friday 7th November and was named “The Old Trafford Sleep Out” which the club describe as “helping vulnerable young people across our region this winter.”
The event looked to support those who needed it across Greater Manchester and beyond by having participants come together to “share their stories while gaining an insight into the issues our young people face across local communities.”
The event required participants to raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship to do their bit towards the Manchester United Foundation which is partnered with 79 schools and has raised £660k by season ticket holders and fan donations.
The Foundation has a mission of “Using the power of football and Manchester United to help young people make positive choices in their lives.”
Wes Brown speaks out about his role in the community
Brown said, “I’ve worked with the Foundation for a long time, so I’ve see the difference they make to the community.”
“This kind of event is so important to help support that work and it’s obviously an amazing opportunity for fans to have this experience of sleeping out at Old Trafford.”
The 46-year-old played for nine years at United and since his retirement in 2018, has remained as a face of the club, carrying on United’s legacy for the younger community.
Brown still works now with Manchester United, often appearing on MUTV, producing more content for the United fans to enjoy.
