Fulham star makes worrying Man United admission after another Old Trafford defeat
Fulham goalscorer Alex Iwobi has revealed that his side never doubted that they could beat Manchester United, despite conceding an 89th-minute equaliser.
United, who relied on a late winner of their own in the reverse fixture thanks to Bruno Fernandes, would taste Premier League defeat against the London side at Old Trafford.
Iwobi, who would score the winning goal for Fulham deep into stoppage time minutes after Harry Maguire tied up the game, has admitted that Maguire’s goal did not change their belief United would concede again.
Speaking to reporters following the end of the game, Iwobi would remark the following about if Fulham ever doubted they would get a late winner:
“Nah, because we always had the ability to create chances, we had so many in the final third, it was just about taking them and luckily I was able to take mine at the end.
“We all know he [Adama Traore] can drive us up the pitch and he’s a threat. As soon as he has the ball it is head down for me, sprint towards the goal and he was able to find me.
“I took the touch inside I feel the keeper thought I would wrap it far corner, but I gave him the eyes and put it inside near post.”
Iwobi’s winner was well deserved and would come as a result of United’s inability to stop a high volume of shots on their goal.
United keeper Andre Onana was forced to make several saves throughout the game, with the Red Devils conceding a worrying 17 shots against 12th-placed Fulham.
Worse yet, both the number of shots as well as defeats against lesser opposition have become a regular theme for Erik ten Hag’s side.
United’s loss against Fulham marks the third time they have lost to a bottom side of the table side this season, with all three of these defeats coming at Old Trafford.
