French legend Emmanuel Petit has already had his say on the potential of Zinedine Zidane managing Manchester United.

Petit, 53, played alongside Zidane for the France team that won the 1998 World Cup and was a regular for the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Monaco.

The future of Erik ten Hag at United is unknown following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stake in the club being confirmed.

INEOS will be assessing their best move going forwards and the Dutch manager could be on his way out of the door at the end of the season.

Many names have been mentioned as potential replacements. Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi and Graham Potter are three of those.

However, Zinedine Zidane has also been listed as a potential option and recent reports have resparked that one rumour.

Zidane has not been in management since he departed Real Madrid in 2021.

Petit has previously explained that his former teammate had been learning English, which could be an indicator towards a potential move to the Premier League.

Yet, he is unsure whether it would be a move that Zidane would make simply because Zidane has no familiarity with the league.

“Communication is very important, so if you do not speak the language when you arrive at a club like Manchester United, that could be a big problem,” explained Petit back in 2021.

“I’ve been told that he has been learning English recently, so I think he knows it’s important for his career, but Zinedine being linked with Manchester United – I don’t believe it, to be honest.

“Of course, he’s a big name but he never played in the Premier League and has very little connection with it, so as I said, I don’t believe it.”
