Four Manchester United shirt numbers Leny Yoro could take for 2024/25 campaign
Leny Yoro is set to join Manchester United this week to become the second signing of the summer for the new INEOS regime.
Yoro, 18, emerged as United’s top priority at centre-back following an agreement with Lille for the defender.
Despite Real Madrid being the player’s preferred choice, United had to put in significant effort to persuade him to join.
Now, he appears poised to become a new addition to the United squad, with several factors contributing to their successful acquisition of the young talent over the La Liga champions.
With a medical booked for Wednesday and a verbal agreement on personal terms, as per Fabrizio Romano, many fans will be eager to see what shirt number Yoro is given at Old Trafford.
There are several options for the young talent, who is expected to be a key player for United, including his Lille shirt number.
First up is the esteemed no.4 shirt, which was expected to be Matthijs de Ligt’s once he joined the club. While that deal could still happen with sales, United could reward Yoro with a key shirt number to reflect their appreciation of his talents.
The likes of Steve Bruce and Owen Hargreaves have donned the no.4 shirt for the Reds before.
However, the young defender could also stick with his current shirt from Lille, with the no.15 available at Old Trafford following Sergio Reguilon’s loan exit last January.
United legend Nemanja Vidic has also worn the no.15 shirt at Old Trafford.
Another option for Yoro is to take Raphaël Varane’s old no.19 after the French legend departed this summer.
Finally, the Reds could offer Yoro the vacant no.3 shirt, last worn by centre-back Eric Bailly, despite being known for being a left-back number.
It is likely that United announce Yoro as a new signing in the coming days, with the French defender expected to be on the pre-season tour to the United States.
