The transfer window has yet to kick off for Manchester United, but with a deal for Bryan Mbeumo nearing completion, the next few days are likely to be a busy period for the club.
Manchester United are trying to finalise a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, with Brentford and the side from Old Trafford currently in negotiations to complete the transaction. All parties are expecting a positive conclusion to the saga.
United have already wrapped up a £62.5m transfer for Matheus Cunha and are set to try and make sales in the coming weeks to hopefully land a striker before the start of the new season. Regarding targets, Viktor Gyökeres remains of interest, as does Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The club have yet to make a significant sale, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho four of the most obvious players they could offload for a reasonable fee this summer.
United could receive a boost this week with their chances of selling players, as the transfer window is expected to heat up for all clubs.
United could sell four key players this week
Manchester United could sell three key players this week, as the entire Premier League is expected to increase their spending due to the arrival of the new reporting year under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).
According to MailSport, there is a belief that several clubs have deals on hold until they can register the expenditure on the 2025/26 accounts, rather than the 2024/25 accounts.
Some sides at the limit regarding PSR for this season’s accounts will be a bit looser in terms of what they can spend next week. This could open up the doors for the sales of Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho is likely to benefit the most from this. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal are interested in the Argentine, who would prefer to remain in the Premier League this summer, despite having admirers from abroad.
Marcus Rashford is also still admired by Aston Villa, although a move to Barcelona at the moment seems the most likely by far.
Antony is still expected to join Real Betis, with negotiations ongoing between the clubs, but a Premier League club could make a late move now that they have the freedom to do so. The same also applies to Sancho, who is available for £25 million and retains the interest of multiple clubs across Europe.
United should stand firm on sale valuations
Manchester United need to stand firm on their valuation for the players they want to sell this summer, as players who aren’t quite as good as them are being offered higher fees.
With someone like Jamie Bynoe-Gittens going for £55 million, United should not drop their price tag of £60 million for Garnacho. The Argentine is Premier League proven at a much bigger club under much more intense pressure, and his price tag should reflect that for anyone who wants him.
Antony has had a major season in Spain with Betis, and he deserves to be sold for over £30m. The Brazilian has clear talent, despite his failures at United.
Marcus Rashford, more than anyone, is a player United MUST stand firm on. The academy graduate has shown that he can reach elite levels in the past, and United cannot and must not accept a price tag any lower than £40m for the player this summer.
