Four Manchester United players could return for Ruben Amorim’s first game vs Ipswich Town
Four Manchester United players could return from injury for Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge after the international break against Ipswich Town.
Last week, Manchester United revealed that Ruben Amorim would take over as manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
The Portuguese coach will remain with Sporting Lisbon for their final two games before the international break and will begin his new role in Manchester on November 11.
That gives him around two weeks to prepare for his first outing against Ipswich Town in the Premier League, with the head coach set to shake things up at Old Trafford.
He will also be hoping to get several players back from injury to bolster his options ahead of a tough run of opening fixtures.
Four United players could return for Amorim’s first game
It has recently been reported that Amorim could have both of his natural left-sided defenders back for his opening game, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia working to be fit for Ipswich Town.
That would give the 39-year-old more options in the biggest problem position in his new 3-4-3 system at left wingback.
Meanwhile, Mason Mount was pictured in team training this week after he suffered another injury setback last month.
The midfielder will not be rushed back into action. Instead, it seems likely that he will get several weeks on the grass to be fully fit for Amorim’s introduction.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the tail-end of November is the period scheduled for Leny Yoro’s return to fitness.
The 18-year-old summer signing was spotted on the grass in late October and is desperate to return as soon as possible.
While he may not be fit enough to start against Ipswich, he could get going in the squad and that will be crucial for Amorim.
In the back-three system, there is no other centre-back who can cover those wide positions like Yoro, whose athleticism is on a different level to his competition in the backline.
After an injury stricken time under Ten Hag, the new boss at Old Trafford will be hoping that he can keep a fit squad throughout the rest of the season.
