Former Premier League chief executive names two Casemiro replacements for Manchester United

Former Premier League chief executive, Keith Wyness, has provided Manchester United with two potential replacements for their departing star, Casemiro.

Since joining Manchester United in 2022, Casemiro has endured a turbulent four years filled with many ups and downs, although this season has seen him play his best football in a United shirt.

The Brazilian midfielder was an ever-present part of Ruben Amorim’s midfield, and looks to have already nailed a spot in Michael Carrick’s setup too.

On Sunday, Casemiro’s goal and assist took him to seven goal contributions for the season in the Premier League, whilst it also elevated his side up to fourth in the table.

Casemiro will be dearly missed next season, following the recent news that he will be leaving the club once his contract expires in the summer. Keith Wyness has given the Reds two names to replace the 33-year-old.

Wyness’ two names for United

Wyness, who has previously worked as a chief executive for Everton and Aston Villa, spoke with Football Insider regarding the announcement that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford this summer.

The Reds already seemed keen on the idea of bringing in a new midfielder, with the futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte up in the air, although it seems as if the former is now resettled at the club.

Regarding a potential replacement to the Brazilian midfielder, Wyness said, “If they are going to strengthen, then I think they’re going to have to look at the likes of [Adam] Wharton, who seems to be the name on everybody’s minds, or [Elliot] Anderson.

“Those are the two potential replacements. I think if it is to be Wharton, then you’ve got to bear in mind the cost of the replacement that he would cost to get hold of and his wages.

“I don’t think it’ll be as high as Casemiro, and I think it may end up with a slightly better look for the balance sheet for Man United, which is a big concern for them these days.”

Wyness claims ‘it’s right’ for Casemiro to leave

When speaking on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the former chief executive also said, “I think it is the right decision. There’s been a lot of talk about his pace.

“Look, he’s been a very consistent player for them. He’s played most of the matches for sure, kept himself fit. And there’s no doubt, obviously, he’s a talent.

“But I think it’s right for United, they’re starting to see some signs, and it’s coming from the youth. And I think that they need to.”

Wyness finished off by saying, “But there will be a cost to replace him. But I think that they can do it, and I think it’s time for that relationship to part ways and to move on. I think age is the big thing on that side.”

Regardless of his age, Casemiro has been a vital part of United’s side throughout this campaign, and any replacement fit to lace the Brazilian’s boots will likely cost the club a pretty penny.
