Manchester United and Nottingham Forest will face off for the second Wednesday evening in a row as the two sides battle out the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The first leg ended in a resounding 3-0 victory for Manchester United, with Marcus Rashford, Wout Wehorst, and Bruno Fernandes supplying the goals for Erik ten Hag on the night.

Despite the result, Ten Hag addmitted that United were not tactically up to scratch on the evening, saying: “We almost let them come back into the game and we cannot allow that. So much control, we dictated the game, but one moment can change that. We cannot allow it.”

“They changed the system and we did not anticipate that. That can’t happen. That’s a moment that we have to improve.

Unlike United’s form ahead of the first leg of the semi-final, the Reds have won their last two fixtures. The 3-0 victory over Forest was followed up with a 3-1 home FA Cup win over Reading, with United advancing themselves into the fifth round of the competition, set to face West Ham United.

The loss and draw in the two fixtures prior to the tie were against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, respectively. The final of the three wins in United’s last 5 games was the incredible 2-1 showdown against Manchester City.

United have won their last 10 matches across all competitions at Old Trafford, a run stretching back to 19 October, when Ten Hag’s men took Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur to pieces in a 2-0 victory.

Nottingham Forest’s last fixture, rather awkwardly, was Manchester United at home in the Carabao Cup. The midlands club were meant to have a friendly fixture against Sligo Rovers on the weekend, however the fixture was cancelled.

Nottingham Forest, after a poor start to the season that left them dead last in the table, have really picked it up under Steve Cooper.

The former England U17s and Swansea manager has led them up to 13th in the Premier League table, and although they were recently dispatched from the FA Cup in a 4-1 trouncing by Blackpool, the fact that Cooper has guided them to the Carabao Cup semi-final in their first season back in England’s top flight is a testament to their hard work and ability as a squad.
