Manchester United and Leeds United will face off for the second time this week, with Erik ten Hag’s men travelling to Elland Road.

Manchester United and Leeds United clashed at Old Trafford most recently on Wednesday evening, with a 2-2 draw playing out as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho rescued a point for Erik ten Hag’s men.

The two sides have a fierce rivalry, nicknamed the “Roses rivalry”, with many iconic moments having been played between the two sides over the decades.

In more recent memory it has been a fixture which has either seen spoils shared or Manchester United claiming three points, with last season’s memorable 5-1 win including a hattrick from Bruno Fernandes no doubt springing to the mind of many fans of the Red Devils.

As for the latest form of either side, here is a break down of how each team has faired ahead of the fixture.

Manchester United

Last five games: W, W, W, W, D

Manchester United, obviously, played their last match in a 2-2 draw against Leeds United. This draw saw United’s form in the Premier League become just one win in their last four games – a tense victory against Crystal Palace.

In the league, United have won two, drawn two, and lost one in their last five fixtures, accumulating eight of a possible 15 points. If United had collected those extra seven points, they would currently be sat top of the table, two points ahead of league leaders Arsenal.

In the cup competitions however, United have looked strong. They recently booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest during the two-legged semi-final, as well as saw themselves through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory against Reading.

They are due to play Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup at Wembley on the 26th February.

Leeds United

Last five games: W, D, W, L, D

Leeds United, prior to this week, had been on poor form; form bad enough that their manager, Jesse Marsch, was sacked ahead of the Old Trafford fixture on Wednesday.

On Wednesday evening, Leeds became the first side to not lose against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the last 14 games, ending United’s brilliant win streak at the ground.

Premier League losses to Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, paired with a draw to Brentford, has seen Leeds drop to 17th in the table – just one point above the relegation zone, with Everton (18th) and Bournemouth (19th) both on 18 points, while Southampton sit bottom on 15.

They did recently defeat Cardiff 5-2 in an FA Cup third round replay, with the original fixture ending in a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Cardiff City Stadium. They advanced through the fourth round with a 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley.
