Fabrizio Romano has beaten down rumours that Manchester United are considering an attack for one of Europe’s brightest young midfielders amid Rúben Amorim’s need for reinforcements.
Manchester United’s top priority in the 2026 summer transfer window is, no doubt, signing a new midfielder.
Last summer, the club chose to sign a new front three, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško all joining, while goalkeeper Senne Lammens signed on deadline day.
However, with the futures of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes, and Kobbie Mainoo—all four of United’s senior midfielders—in question, the club will need to dip into the market for significant reinforcements.
The club showed signifiacnt interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba last summer, but backed off after being quoted a transfer fee of £100 million and chose instead to reassess their options next summer.
United will not be signing Pavlovic next summer
There are plenty of fantastic midfield talents across Europe, and United will no doubt be keeping tabs on more than just others in the Premier League. Recently, the club have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović.
The 21-year-old German is an essential part of Vincent Kompany’s current side, and when he is not in the team, it has been noted that the Bundesliga side often misses him as a “flowmaker” in the middle of the park.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has beaten down these claims, stating that there is absolutely nothing in the reports linking Pavlovic to United.
“For Pavlovic, guys, I can guarantee to you that there is nothing, absolutely nothing ongoing,” confirmed Romano on his YouTube channel. “Pavlovic is a crucial player for Bayern; he’s more than happy at Bayern.
“Bayern – and when I say Bayern, it’s the board of directors, but also the most important people at Bayern, like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeness and all the others – they all see Pavlovic as one of the crucial faces of the project for present and future.
“So there is nothing between Pavlovic and Manchester United. I don’t know where this news is coming from, but Bayern will not sell Pavlovic. So forget about it.”
United likely to look to the Premier League next summer
While Baleba is no doubt still considered a key target for the club ahead of next summer, two other young midfielders in the Premier League will no doubt be considered when United draw up their list of key targets.

It has long been reported that Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has significant admirers at Old Trafford, with United reportedly seeing him as a possible replacement for Casemiro once the Brazilian departs.
The 33-year-old’s current contract is set to expire this summer, but he may be offered an extended deal with reduced pay terms if he continues his good form of late.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is another. The 22-year-old is having a standout campaign despite Forest’s poor start to the league season, and has earned his England debut and a further three caps under Thomas Tuchel.
