Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has revealed a theory regarding Manchester United’s plans for Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, including a ‘midfield revamp’ claim.
Manchester United’s midfield department has been one of the key talking points of their season so far, with the club coming under fire for their treatment of a couple of their stars.
Bruno Fernandes was on the receiving end of much transfer speculation during the summer transfer window, as Saudi Arabian clubs were very keen on the United captain’s signature.
Despite this interest, Ruben Amorim’s main man stayed put and has since been in fantastic form, notching five goals and seven assists in 16 Premier League games.
Freshly following the Fernandes debacle, fellow United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is being rumoured for a loan move in the January transfer window due to a lack of playing time.
Jacobs on United’s ‘revamp’
When speaking with The United Stand via X, transfer expert Ben Jacobs has brought a theory to light, claiming that both Fernandes and Mainoo could help United to fund a ‘revamp’.
Jacobs said, “I think there is a theory here that Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes could help fund a midfield revamp, but that doesn’t mean that Bruno is not appreciated or valuable.”
“Manchester United are not desperate to sell Bruno Fernandes BUT for the right offer, which some at Manchester United think would be his clause… it might be worth having that conversation so we can’t discount a Bruno exit in the summer.”
Although up until now, it has only been suggested that Mainoo could leave the club on a loan basis, Jacobs seems to suggest that a permanent departure could be on the cards.
Amorim’s thoughts on midfield additions
Jacobs continued to speak on United’s midfield conundrum, via X, and stated that Amorim would ideally be provided with two midfield additions in the summer.
“Ruben Amorim feels there’s room for two,” said Jacobs. “One that’s maybe more a defined six and one a bit like Bruno Fernandes that can be played deeper but also can be tasked with getting box to box and having an attacking output whilst still winning the ball.”
Because Mainoo is neither a defined six, nor a Fernandes-esque midfielder, it is clear as to why Amorim opts against using him, given his desire for these midfield profiles.
The talented Englishman will definitely be one to watch in the January transfer window, and maybe even next summer, as a loan move at the very least could be on the cards.
