First models of Old Trafford regeneration revealed with full Manchester United statement
The first models of the potential Old Trafford regeneration project have been revealed as Manchester United released a statement about the benefits it would yield.
Manchester United are considering two options for the future of their stadium with the final decision expected to come by the end of 2024.
Old Trafford is one of the most famous and iconic stadiums in world football but it has become outdated under the Glazer ownership and considerations to build a new stadium are strong.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already explained why he would want the club to build a new structure, previously citing the potential of United’s home being considered the ‘Wembley of the North’.
Models of Old Trafford regeneration project
The first official models of the potential project for a new 100,000-seater stadium and regeneration of the Trafford Park area have been released.
Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has been in dialogue with the club and spoke to Sky Sports about the possibility of this project.
During that interview, models of the new stadium and surrounding area were noticed and can be seen below.
Burnham said: “I think this would be the single most significant football location in the world.”
Man United statement on economic report
Meanwhile, United have hired Oxford Economics, one of the world’s foremost independent global advisory firms.
Their ‘preliminary economic impact assessment’ concludes that their could be incredible financial and economic benefits from the project, including a potential £7.3 billion per year to the UK’s economy.
“An economic report commissioned to explore the benefits of a world-class 100,000-seater stadium as part of a regenerated Trafford Park has found the project could deliver an additional £7.3 billion per year to the UK’s economy.”
“Oxford Economics, one of the world’s foremost independent global advisory firms, has undertaken a preliminary economic impact assessment of the proposals, with initial estimates suggesting that the project will contribute huge growth to the UK economy, including the creation of 92,000 new jobs, more than 17,000 new homes as well as driving an additional 1.8 million visitors per year.”
