“Absolutely first class…” – Three Man United players praised for magical FA Cup moment
Three Manchester United players have been praised for their role in a magical moment during their FA Cup final victory on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, claiming the trophy for the first time since Louis van Gaal’s tenure in 2016.
Alejandro Garnacho gave the Reds an early lead by capitalizing on a defensive error to score into an open net.
Kobbie Mainoo doubled United’s advantage before halftime, finishing a superb team play with an assist from Bruno Fernandes.
Despite a late goal from Jérémy Doku that increased the pressure, United held firm to secure the cup.
The moment of the match had to be the second goal. It was superbly worked from back to front, and while Mainoo deserves heaps of credit for providing the finishing touch, Ally McCoist was hugely impressed by the role of three of the midfielder’s teammates, too.
“It really is [a beautiful pass], it’s on all the time,” McCoist said on ITV commentary as Marcus Rashford switched the play to Garnacho on the opposition side ahead of the goal.
“What a goal this is, absolutely different level, switch of play is superb and the ball into Fernandes [from Garnacho].
“And his awareness is absolutely first class, it really is! Great switch of play… then he’s [Garnacho] only got one thing in his mind, he’s positive again.
“Oh, that ball there, that ball there from Fernandes is absolutely exquisite, and so is the finish.”
It was a goal worthy of being the difference in a cup final.
