Fabrizio Romano has warned Manchester United fans to keep an eye on an Old Trafford sale as deadline day approaches at the end of August.

Manchester United have started the summer transfer window with intent, securing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million and 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille for £52 million.

The capture of Yoro has drawn particular acclaim, with United and INEOS praised for circumventing Real Madrid, signalling their ambitious vision for the future.

The club is also focused on strengthening their midfield and has been closely linked with Paris St. Germain’s 23-year-old Manuel Ugarte, who recently helped Uruguay achieve a third-place finish at the 2024 Copa America tournament.

However, with PSG demanding as much as £60 million for the player this summer, United will need to sell to secure the player described as their No. 1 target for the position. Fabrizio Romano has warned United fans that they should keep an eye on Scott McTominay’s future with respect to the Ugarte deal.

“There are no bids at the moment for Casemiro,” the transfer expert revealed. “[Erik] ten Hag confirmed he’s expecting him to stay, but keep an eye on Scott McTominay. “Outgoings are needed to pursue the deal for Manuel Ugarte.”

Further, Romano explained on his YouTube channel that Ugarte remains United’s top target.

“Their top target remains Manuel Ugarte from PSG,” Romano stated. “In order to sign Ugarte, there are two chances. [Either] PSG drops the price because Man United will not pay crazy money. Otherwise, Man United should sell at least one player in that position.

“This could be McTominay, could be Casemiro, we will see. But Man United need a sale in order to finance the deal for Manuel Ugarte. Otherwise, they will go for another midfielder. Potentially, a cheap midfielder.”

United have also been linked to other midfielders, such as AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana
and Burnley’s Sander Berge, who are both cheaper options than Ugarte.
