Fabrizio Romano says “brilliant” Manchester United star could leave Old Trafford next year, next destination revealed

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that one “brilliant” Manchester United star could leave the club next year and his next destination is becoming clear.

Manchester United had a highly active summer transfer window, completing four major additions as part of their squad rebuild.

Ruben Amorim reinforced his team with the signings of Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško, while young fullback Diego Leon also arrived. In total, the five deals amounted to roughly £215 million.

Departures proved just as influential, with several players moving on — including three confirmed on deadline day.

Notable among those leaving Old Trafford were Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, who exited either on loan or in permanent moves.

Romano says “brilliant” star could leave United

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is already talk about what could happen at Old Trafford in the transfer market next year – both in the January and summer windows.

It has already been suggested that United do not feel like they’ll need to strengthen their midfield in the mid-season window, but it will be an inevitable change come the next summer transfer window.

That is partly because of exit plans, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Casemiro is ‘one to watch’ in 2026 as his United contract expires.

The Italian journalist believes there is a ‘concrete chance’ that the Brazilian midfielder will not extend his deal at Old Trafford and leave the Reds next summer.

He also suggested that Casemiro’s future lies outside of Europe’s top five leagues after this season. The MLS and Saudi Pro League would both be options for the United star.

Casemiro and Fernandes exits leaves hole in United midfield

Casemiro might not be the only midfield departure next year, with reports suggesting there is a genuine chance that Bruno Fernandes also leaves the club.

If those two exits were to happen, United would need a minimum of two top midfield signings next summer, as they would be left with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte as their only senior options in the engine room.

Casemiro might have been an expensive purchase from Real Madrid in 2022, and everyone knows that United could have spent the money better.

But the Brazilian has produced some “brilliant” moments in United colours and will be remembered fondly when he departs next summer.

In the meantime, he still has a significant part to play in the 2025/26 campaign, with the experienced midfielder currently Amorim’s preferred partner to Fernandes in the engine room.
