Fabrizio Romano has revealed one thing that Manchester United need to change in negotiations with Brentford to secure a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United are continuing their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with talks dragging on for over a month as they look to secure what would be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
Ruben Amorim is eager to further strengthen his attacking options, but negotiations with Brentford over Mbeumo have been slow-moving.
United’s opening offer in early June—£45 million plus £10 million in add-ons—was rejected, and a follow-up bid of £55 million with an additional £7.5 million in bonuses was also turned down.
The club has been cautious in negotiations, unwilling to meet Brentford’s full valuation. However, with pre-season already underway and Mbeumo initially expected to be signed by now, the delay is becoming increasingly noticeable.
Fabrizio Romano reveals what United must change in Mbeumo deal
It has been explained by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel that contacts between United and Brentford are ongoing for Mbeumo and that the Reds remain confident.
Mbeumo is said to still be keen on the move and United are working on the right structure of a deal for the 25-year-old forward.
Romano detailed that the Reds ‘are working on easy and difficult add-ons’ as they try to satisfy the Bees, who are well-known for wanting guaranteed sums of money.
This confirms earlier reports which claimed that the main problem in United’s second offer was the amount of add-ons, how difficult they were to achieve, and the structure of a deal.
Despite the total fee of £62.5 million being close to Brentford’s demands, there was £7.5 million in add-ons and it seems like this is where the negotiating in recent days has been focused on.
Reports elsewhere have claimed that a breakthrough in negotiations is expected in the coming days before the Reds head out to the United States for their pre-season tour.
United need to find balance in negotiating
Some United fans will look at those details and think that it is pointless for United to try and save a few million by dragging the negotiations out.
But those same people have probably complained at the price United paid for some of their players in recent years, so it is clear that a balance needs to be struck.
Unfortunately for United’s new leadership team, Brentford are no mugs and will not be taken advantage of in the transfer window even if Mbeumo has explained his desire to make the move.
They will not stop him from leaving, but the London-based club want to receive fair market value for their player and with all of the deals going around lately, it might even still be a little bit of a bargain.
