Fabrizio Romano reveals “unreal” star is expected to stay despite Manchester United ‘close to agreeing’ rumours

Fabrizio Romano has shut down rumours of Manchester United being close to agreeing a move for one “unreal” star ahead of the transfer deadline.

Manchester United are expected to have a busy transfer deadline day and rumours have been flying around about potential incomings and outgoings.

The Reds have already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško, as well as young defender Diego Leon.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has left on loan to Barcelona and Alejandro Garnacho joined Chelsea permanently in a £40 million deal.

Ruben Amorim will be hoping to welcome at least one more signing before the window slams shut on Monday evening.

Romano reveals “unreal” star is expected to stay despite United rumours

United have been interested in signing a midfielder this summer and reports from Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that the Reds were closing in on a shock signing.

He claimed that United had sent a delegation to Stuttgart on Sunday to complete a deal for Angelo Stiller, with the two clubs close to agreeing a deal.

However, since that news broke, Fabrizio Romano has shut down the rumour and explained that the “unreal” midfielder is expected to stay at the Bundesliga club this season.

“Angelo Stiller, expected to stay at Stuttgart this summer as there are zero negotiations underway now,” the Italian journalist wrote on X, shortly before Tavolieri deleted his initial report.

Reports elsewhere have suggested that a midfield signing is unlikely for United in the final hours of the window despite it being a clear target all summer at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper signing likely for United

While there are doubts over a deadline day midfield signing, it seems likely that United end the window with a new goalkeeper.

It remains to be seen whether that will be Senne Lammens or Emi Martínez, but either would likely be an upgrade on the current options at Old Trafford.

All four games United have played so far this season have involved goalkeeping mistakes and they need a more stable presence there if they are going to improve.

Ideally, United would make signings in both of those positions but many would prefer a shot-stopper if they can only choose one.
