Fabrizio Romano has revealed three ‘absolutely crucial’ moves Manchester United need to make in order to secure a deal for Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
After a disappointing campaign, Manchester United are moving swiftly in the transfer market as they look to rebuild for the upcoming season.
Ruben Amorim has already made his first addition by signing Matheus Cunha, and the club has now turned its attention to Bryan Mbeumo, who is reportedly keen on a switch to Old Trafford. Talks with Brentford are expected to get underway in the coming days.
United are also actively pursuing a new striker, with several targets under consideration. Securing all three attacking additions would go a long way in revitalising a frontline that struggled for consistency last season.
Liam Delap was initially the top choice to lead the line, but he has opted to join Chelsea instead. However, there is increasing optimism at United that they could land Viktor Gyökeres as an alternative, especially after he rejected a huge proposal from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Romano confirms crucial United moves for Gyokeres
Fabrizio Romano recently explained that United were in contact with Sporting and Gyokeres’ camp last week and asked to be kept updated on the deal.
The Italian reporter has now explained on GiveMeSport that the transfer is ‘way more complicated’ for the Reds after they failed to qualify for Europe.
Still, a move to Old Trafford for Gyokeres is still a possibility but Romnao states that the potential sales of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho this summer are ‘absolutely crucial’ for United.
“Sources believe Champions League football was probably going to facilitate the deal for Manchester United, but the final in Bilbao killed that possibility and so financially for Man United it’s way more complicated to proceed with this move,” explained Romano.
“The financial factor will be crucial to understand whether they’ll be able to afford Gyokeres or not; Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho exits are absolutely crucial and more could also follow in different positions.”
Sales are difficult for United
The sale of Garnacho should be a relatively straightforward one as the Argentine will have a lot of interest and he does not have a huge wage at the moment.
However, the exits of Sancho and Rashford will likely be more drawn out and complicated, not only due too their wage demands but also their preferences.
Rashford is said to be dreaming about a Barcelona move and we all know that the Spanish outfit would prefer to snatch him on a loan towards the end of the season.

No one would be entirely surprised if United ended up loaning Sancho and Rashford again this summer, but the club have to try and push for sales.
In terms of the Gyokeres deal in isolation, just one major sale would probably be enough but United then need to make room for more signings in midfield and defence, and these departures will prove crucial.
