Fabrizio Romano reveals secret reason why Man Utd pulled out of Emi Martínez deal, it’s embarrassing for departing star

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the secret reason as to why Manchester United pulled out of the Emiliano Martinez transfer. The reason is very embarrassing.

With deadline day now upon us, Manchester United are still in search of a new goalkeeper and have recently turned their attentions to a Premier League rival for their shot stopper.

Ruben Amorim’s side have had a difficult start to the season, picking up four points out of a possible nine, with their only win coming from a 95th-minute penalty from Bruno Fernandes against Burnley to win 3-2.

The Reds have started Altay Bayindir in all three league matches, whilst Andre Onana started their shock defeat in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby. Both goalkeepers have failed to impress so far.

This conundrum has caused United to seek an alternative, with Senne Lammens and Emiliano Martinez being the two candidates. The Red Devils have now pulled out of the Martinez deal, however, with the reason being very embarrassing for one player.

Sancho stops Martinez deal

According to Fabrizio Romano on his GiveMeSport livestream for deadline day, Amorim’s side have had to pull out of negotiations for the Villa shot stopper due to Jadon Sancho’s situation.

When asked about the negotiations, Romano said, “At the moment, Emi’s still looking for a solution. Emi wants to go. This is since the start of the window.”

“With United, the deal was on until this morning, then the idea from Manchester United, from what I’m hearing, was to do a permanent deal swap with Jadon Sancho and Emi Martinez – not to involve any money, basically.”

“From what I’m hearing, this is going to be impossible because Sancho is going only on loan, Sancho is not accepting a permanent move, and so a loan deal to Aston Villa, and then for Emi Martinez, new solutions to explore.”

This simply seems embarrassing for Sancho, and it is confusing what he is actually looking for in his career as he enters what many would consider to be his prime years.

Lammens the man for United

Fortunately for the Red Devils, they have now managed to agree on a deal for their alternative option, Lammens, from Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

United have agreed an £18million deal for the 23-year-old shot stopper, who is meant to compete for a starting spot in Amorim’s side.

Hopefully for United, Lammens can be the man to finally ensure some much needed consistency and reliability between the sticks, as they look to leave their goalkeeping woes behind.

As for Sancho, he will follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford as he joins Villa in a loan deal, where he will hope to impress before assessing options next summer.
