Fabrizio Romano reveals Ruben Amorim has given green light for £33m Manchester United transfer
Manchester United are set to make significant changes to Ruben Amorim’s squad when the summer transfer window opens.
Ruben Amorim has endured a challenging start to his tenure at Manchester United, winning just 10 of his first 21 matches in charge.
It’s evident that reinforcements are needed, but the club won’t have an unlimited budget to work with in the upcoming window.
Player sales and departures will be key in generating funds for new signings, with several exits expected at the end of the season.
However, the club are already working on potential deals behind the scenes ahead of what is anticipated to be a busy summer transfer window.
Amorim green lights Quenda deal
One player who has been regularly linked with United is Amorim’s former player Geovany Quenda, who has been excelling for Sporting CP this season.
Amorim promoted Quenda to the first-team at the Portuguese club and the teenager has since become one of their best players.
While the United boss promised to not touch the Sporting team in the January window, he is certainly open to making a move for Quenda in the summer.
Amid reports of personal terms being agreed for a potential move, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Amorim has given the green light for a deal to be done.
“Quenda is on the list for sure,” the Italian journalist wrote in his GiveMeSport newsletter. “He’s been on the list for weeks and months.
“This remains the case. Nothing to say in terms of deal done now but he’s a player approved directly by Amorim.”
How much will Quenda cost United?
It has been well-reported that Quenda has a release clause in his contract at Sporting, which is rumoured to be slightly over £80 million.
However, a deal is extremely likely to be able to be made at a fee lower than that price and Ben Jacobs claims that the Reds value the 17-year-old at around £33 million.
The journalist also explained that the Liga Portugal side are aiming to secure at least £49 million for the transfer of Quenda.
It seems likely that a potential compromise is made in the middle if United were to sign the wingback, who is considered as one of the most exciting talents in Europe.
Amorim already knows how to get the best out of the teenager, and he would fit into the team at right wingback, bolstering one of the most pressing positions in Amorim’s squad.
