Fabrizio Romano has revealed further details about Antoine Semenyo’s Bournemouth release clause amid Manchester United’s continued interest.
Manchester United are tracking Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo after his impressive rise in the Premier League over the past 18 months.
Following an excellent season on the South Coast, Rúben Amorim’s team submitted a £50 million offer for the Ghana international, matched by Tottenham Hotspur, but both bids were rejected and he later agreed a new deal.
Reports at the time suggested Amorim and Semenyo even met for dinner, and that United had reached an agreement on personal terms with the player, although negotiations with Bournemouth stalled.
His new contract included a salary increase on the condition that a release clause was added, and it has since been revealed that this clause stands at £65 million in January and decreases in the summer.
Romano reveals further Semenyo release clause details
Reports earlier this week stated that while the total release clause value for January was £65 million, this is actually made up of a £60 million fee and £5 million in add-ons, while the only news on the Summer release clause was that it was over the £50 million United bid in 2025.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now gone a step further by explaining that the summer release clause value is only “slightly above” £50 million, hinting that it may be within the £50-55 million range.
“The details of this clause, from what I am told, are the following: The clause is valid in January and also in the summer transfer window,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “The value changes depending on the period.
“For the January transfer window, the value is £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons, making a total of £65 million. For the summer transfer window, the value is slightly above £50 million.”
Romano admits United will face heavy transfer battle
As mentioned above, United and Spurs have already shown a concrete interest in Semenyo, but according to Romano, are set to face an intense battle with Liverpool for the winger.
“Keep an eye on Semenyo because there is a lot of interest,” Romano continued. “He was on Manchester United’s list last summer. Tottenham also contacted his side last summer. These two clubs have been following him for a long time.
“Do not forget Liverpool, because Liverpool are also interested in a potential deal for Antoine Semenyo. From what I am hearing, Liverpool are considering the possibility. They are monitoring him closely and have a very good relationship with Bournemouth.
“We will see what happens in the coming months, but Liverpool are another club to add to the list pursuing Antoine Semenyo.”
Amid Liverpool’s problems on both the left and wide flanks, it’s not inconceivable to think they may try and jump the gun by activating his release clause in january.
