Fabrizio Romano has revealed Manchester United’s true stance on potentially signing Adrien Rabiot after being offered the opportunity to sign the midfielder.
Manchester United have already secured three big signings this summer, bringing in Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
After struggling for goals last season, these attacking additions are expected to give Ruben Amorim the firepower needed to improve in the final third.
However, gaps remain elsewhere in the squad, and the club is hopeful of making one or two more signings before the transfer window closes.
United are still targeting reinforcements in midfield and in goal, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens set to arrive later this week.
United’s stance on Rabiot transfer revealed
United’s top midfield target was Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but a deal for the 21-year-old will not be possible this summer.
The club is expected to revisit a move for the Cameroon international next year, but midfield reinforcements remain a priority before this window closes.
It was recently revealed by Fabrizio Romano that United would be “offered” the chance to sign Adrien Rabiot before the deadline after it was decided that he will leave Marseille.
The Italian journalist has now confirmed that United are not planning to make a move for the £17 million-rated midfielder, and are instead focused on other deals this week.
“Zero movements at the moment on this one. Manchester United are focused on different things,” he wrote in his GiveMeSport column.
Amorim will have to find solutions if there’s no midfield signing
With just days remaining in the window, it is starting to seem unlikely that United bring in another midfielder for Amorim.
Rabiot is not the right signing anyway, but there are major concerns over the engine room. Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte are far from ideal options, Bruno Fernandes has started the season slowly and Kobbie Mainoo is yet to receive a minute on the pitch.

Perhaps United are waiting for some cash to come in through the exits of Rasmus Højlund, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho before they look to sign a last-minute midfielder.
Otherwise, Amorim will need to find solutions within his current options, although it doesn’t seem like he is going to do that at the moment.
