Fabrizio Romano provides Man Utd with Antoine Semenyo update, it should allow for ‘big money’ move

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update regarding Manchester United’s interest in Antoine Semenyo. It should allow for a ‘big money’ move for the Reds.

Manchester United invested around £200 million during the summer in bolstering the firepower in their attack, and have since drastically improved in front of goal.

The Reds only scored 32 goals in the 27 Premier League matches managed by Ruben Amorim last season. This contrasts with this season, where they have already scored 21 in only 13 games.

The additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško have helped United to climb up the table, and following a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace, they now sit seventh.

Despite these signings, Amorim’s side are still being linked with AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest update.

United’s ‘big money’ move update

On his YouTube channel, the Italian transfer expert spoke about United’s interest in Semenyo, though he stated that they are not in active talks for Bournemouth’s talisman.

Romano said, “Manchester United at this stage are not in active talks for Semenyo because their talks at this stage are on investing big money in different positions, like a new midfielder.

So at this stage, they like Semenyo, yes. Amorim likes Semenyo, for sure. But the priority target at the moment is in a different position.”

Their decision to prioritise a midfield signing makes sense, and given the Reds’ struggling midfield and the cost of an elite midfielder, opting against pursuing Semenyo could free up funds to sign a central target instead.

Amorim desiring ‘right-footed Amad’

United’s interest in Semenyo adds up, especially considering what Amorim said in his side’s post-match press conference after their 1-0 defeat to Everton last week.

When asked about wanting to strengthen his wing-backs, via Sky Sports, Amorim said: “We need time to improve the characteristics of the team. I’ve said that over the last year.

“To give an example, in the last game [against Everton], we should have an Amad with the right foot to put on the other side to play against 10 men.

“It is these characteristics that, in time, we will try to get to be a better team. If we are the perfect set-up to play in this way, not yet. But like any team, we need time to put the right characteristics into every position.”

Maybe the Reds make a move for the Ghanaian international in the future, although prioritising a new central midfielder looks likely to be the right decision for now.
