Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a 73-goal striker could be offered to Manchester United this summer if a transfer collapse happens soon.
With the deal for Bryan Mbeumo now finalised, Manchester United are set to shift their focus toward securing a centre-forward.
Ruben Amorim will be pleased with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo; two players poised to revamp United’s attacking options.
However, there is still a strong desire to bring in a natural No.9, especially after last season’s struggles in that role, where both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to fully convince.
United are looking at various options upfront and many of them have multiple suitors as they consider their next move before the start of next season.
Fabrizio Romano reveals United could be offered 73-goal striker
Fabrizio Romano has clarified the situation regarding one of United’s striker targets, Randal Kolo Muani, as he looks for his next move.
The Italian journalist explained that Juventus remain the favourites to sign the Frenchman after his success loan spell there last term.
But he added that, should the deal collapse between Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, United could be offered the opportunity to sign Kolo Muani, who has scored 73-goals in his career so far.
Romano wrote in his newsletter for GiveMeSport: “I’m not aware of concrete talks as Juventus remain favourites now, but Manchester United could be offered this opportunity in case the Juve deal collapses.”
Reports elsewhere have suggested that this move to Juventus is stalling for Kolo Muani, which could then open the door for United in the coming weeks.
United need more competition up front
United’s striker signing does not necessarily have to be a world-class striker anymore. That simply isn’t realistic after the spending on Mbeumo and Cunha.
But they do need another body upfront who can do the basics well. Kolo Muani could be that player although the price would also have to be right.
It wasn’t too long ago that United were umming and ahing over whether to sign Højlund or Kolo Muani. Both players haven’t had ideal development since that point in 2023.
Yet they could end up being teammates at Old Trafford and fighting it out for a spot in the team. That kind of competition is something United lacked much of last term.
