Manchester United are said to be interested in Xavi Simons, but Fabrizio Romano has handed a mixed update on their potential pursuit of the Netherlands star.

Reports on Saturday morning revealed that Manchester United are showing “strong interest” in young Paris St. Germain and Netherlands star Xavi Simons.

While PSG are yet to make a final decision on the 21-year-old’s future, it is likely he will soon depart from Parc des Princes in search of more playing time.

According to the report, any potential move is expected to be a loan with an obligation to buy rather than an immediate permanent transfer. PSG intends to delay selling Simons until after 2024 to bypass PSV Eindhoven’s sell-on clause.

The article further indicates that a permanent transfer for the talented Dutch player, who scored one goal and three assists at Euro 2024, would likely be valued at around £70 million.

With this in mind, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now handed fans an update on the situation, with it being mixed news. Romano states that, although Simons will almost certainly leave PSG this summer, United are not concrete in their interest, with the club having to vie with both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig’s interest in his signature.

“I wanted to tell you again, guys, I see many questions on Xavi Simons and Manchester United,” Romano started during a live stream on PlayBack.

“Let me say that the interest of Premier League clubs, Man United but not only, in Xavi Simons is something real because they asked about the conditions of the deal with Paris Saint-Germain knowing that the player will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

“So Manchester United’s interest is genuine, but it’s not something concrete or advanced at this stage because I’m told that the two clubs really pushing and still leading the race for Xavi Simons are Bayern and Red Bull Leipzig. So these two clubs have been pushing for weeks, let me say four months, April, May, June, and now July for Xavi Simons.

“Man United asked for the situation but at the moment have still not presented any proposal also because they know that Xavi Simons is already in advanced discussions with Red Bull Leipzig and with Bayern.

“So let’s see if Manchester will decide to do something big in the next few days. At the moment, the interest is true, but the two clubs leading the race for Xavi Simons remain Bayern and Red Bull Leipzig, waiting for Xavi Simons to decide his future soon.”
