Everything Fabrizio Romano has said about Manchester United’s January transfer news
Everything Fabrizio Romano has said about Manchester United’s current January transfer plans amid a first window for Rúben Amorim.
Manchester United have entered the 2025 January transfer window at a very unstable moment in their history, coming off the back of four successive defeats across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
The club are in desperate need of new signings under Rúben Amorim, but lavish spending under Erik ten Hag in the two and a bit seasons he was at the helm has left the club in dire straights.
United need a new left-back, at least one centre-back, a new striker and multiple new midfielders across 2025, but they have little funds to get these signings through the door.
Therefore, United are focussing heavily on offloading multiple players in January and the summer in order to create these moves.
Below, we detail all the latest that transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has said regarding United and their transfer business right now..
What Romano said about transfer incomings
Regarding incomings, Romano recently explained that Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is “one to watch” regarding a United move in the coming months after he switched representitives, which is sometimes indicates the player is planning on changing teams.
However, he is not the only player that United are targeting at left-back, with Paris St. Germain defender Nuno Mendes also appreciated by the club.
Romano recently detailed that Atalanta midfielder Ederson is a player United really like but any move for the player in January would be ‘really complicated’, so a summer bid is more likely. United are also not the only club who are keeping tabs on him.
The Italian journalist has also explained that United are set to sign young left-back Diego León from the Paraguayan team Cerro Porteño, although this will be a signing who plays for the academy before making a step up to the first team.
What Romano said about transfer outgoings
With United needing to sell players to buy them in both this transfer window and the next, much more information is available regarding who will leave the club in the coming months.
The most noise is surrounding Marcus Rashford. After the 27-year-old confessed his desire to leave the club, Romano explained that the player’s dream move is to play in La Liga, and that with respect to a potential Saudi Arabia transfer, the player has no interest.
Romano has claimed that United are open to letting winger Antony leave in January should a suitable offer come in for the player, and there have been reports that Spanish side Real Betis have shown interest in taking him on loan.
Christian Eriksen will leave the club in the summer once his contract expires, and several clubs are monitoring the situation of Joshua Zirkzee after the 23-year-old Netherlands international has failed to settle in at Old Trafford.
Romano recently clarified that United are now expected to receive £25 million from Chelsea for Jadon Sancho in the summer instead of the initial £20 million after performance bonuses were unlocked during his loan spell there this season, which will become a permanent stay as long as Chelsea finish above 14th in the Premier league table.
