Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd targeting ‘one of the most intense midfielders’ in Europe for 2025 transfer

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United are targeting a high level midfielder in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Manchester United’s performances under Ruben Amorim have been mixed, with the team securing five wins from their first nine matches under his leadership.

This form is summed by by a standout 2-1 victory over Manchester City last weekend being followed up with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite the results, Amorim remains committed to refining the team’s play in line with his new tactical philosophy.

Ederson on United’s transfer list

It has been reported by several outlets that United are interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson to reinforce their midfield depth.

Christian Eriksen and Casemiro will likely leave the club before next season, which will create extra room in the engine room that could need filling by a new player.

Reports have suggested that Ederson would cost between £40 million and £50 million, with the midfielder having impressed for table-topping Atalanta.

His performance in last season’s Europa League final was described as ‘unbelievable’, and he has continued that form into this campaign.

Romano on United’s interest in Ederson

Fabrizio Romano has delivered further updates on the Brazilian player, who he says fits Amorim’s style extremely well.

However, the Italian journalist clarifies that it would be ‘really complicated’ for any club to do a mid-season deal for the player.

It was also explained that there are several other top level clubs interested in the player. Reports elsewhere suggest that Liverpool have exited the race for Ederson.

“One of the most linked players, not just with United, but with several clubs, is Ederson, the Atalanta midfielder, Brazilian player,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“Guys, I can guarantee to you that several clubs around Europe are monitoring Ederson. So it is not only Manchester United. For sure, Manchester United like the player, Ruben Amorim wants intensity. I told you several times.

“When you think of intensity, Ederson is probably one of the most intense midfielders around Europe. He’s running for three players.

“He’s a top, top midfielder. But there is interest from Spain, from England, from several countries in Ederson. So not only Manchester United, and my information is that the January transfer window is going to be really complicated for any club to go there and convince Atalanta to sell Ederson.

“The feeling is that Ederson could leave in the summer. But for the January transfer window it is going to be really complicated, because the interest is there from United and not only. Manchester United sent their scouts several times to follow Ederson.”
