“I can announce…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals gruelling Manchester United transfer update from agent
Manchester United have received another setback ahead of the January transfer window following their dire form.
Manchester United suffered another disappointing defeat on Monday evening, losing 2-0 to Newcastle United in a dismal performance at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim acknowledged that the role has proven more challenging than he initially expected, having only had four full training sessions to introduce his system to the squad.
It is already evident that the squad requires reinforcements to support the new head coach. However, with limited funds available, player sales will be necessary to facilitate any purchases in the January transfer window.
United linked with Olmo amid Barcelona troubles
United’s poor financial state means that they need to be extremely smart in the market, perhaps even taking advantage of potential loan deals.
It seemed like a perfect situation when it was reported that Barcelona were struggling to sign Dani Olmo for the second half of the season.
Olmo joined the Spanish giants in the summer but was only registered until the end of 2024, and their recent attempts to solve the issue had been failing.
This opened the door for a potential free transfer or even a loan deal. United were reportedly interested in a deal and it is no surprise.
The Reds are lacking major quality this season and Olmo would provide that in abundance, even if it was only a temporary solution.
Olmo’s agent squashes United rumours
However, Fabrizio Romano has now spoken with the agent of Olmo, who has put to bed the rumours involving the player.
“I can announce that the decision made by Dani is to STAY at Barcelona,” he told Romano in his GiveMeSport column.
“We are not considering any other option or club, Dani Olmo wants to play for Barça and his desire is very clear.”
It was claimed by Romano that the Euro 2024 winner is willing to wait for Barcelona to find a solution to his registration problem, which is expected soon.
United will be back to the drawing board, but it is doubtful they could get anyone nearly as close in quality to Olmo in the mid-season market, especially on loan or for free.
