Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United’s “internal view” on Erik ten Hag’s current difficulties after Omar Berrada’s statement of support.

The Reds have had a shaky start to the new season, managing only one Premier League win in their first three games.

A 3-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool came on the heels of a last-minute loss to Brighton last weekend.

While the opening victory over Fulham offered some positive signs, Erik ten Hag’s squad still has considerable work ahead.

This problematic beginning to the new campaign has led some supporters to call for the manager to be sacked.

However, soon after the Liverpool defeat, a press conference with Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada was released, and while the comments were from before the Liverpool game, they showed support for Ten Hag.

“Erik has our full backing and we’ve worked very closely together in this transfer window,” said Berrada. “We’re going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results out of the team.”

This has been followed up by information from Fabrizio Romano, who revealed the “internal” view on the Dutch manager after recent struggles.

He explains that, before judging the results and performances of the team, it is important for those in charge at Old Trafford to see the impact of the new signings.

“Both Berrada and Ashworth have been very public in backing Ten Hag, and also discussing how he was very involved in the planning of the squad in the transfer market. They still believe that Ten Hag is the man to start this new project under the ownership of INEOS,” Romano wrote on his Substack.

“It’s a strong statement by United, and their position internally remains that, before judging anything in terms of results and performances, it will be important to see the impact of all the new signings.”

Noussair Mazraoui is the only new signing to start all three Premier League games. Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee started against Liverpool but were on the bench in the prior games.

Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte was not signed in time to be prepared to play in that Liverpool game, and Leny Yoro suffered a pre-season injury.
