Fabrizio Romano has recently explained why a perfect Manchester United transfer ‘collapsed’ as the Red Devils near closer to an agreement on a deal for Benjamin Sesko.
Manchester United’s transfer window has looked to eradicate any goalscoring concerns that surrounded the club after their dismal previous campaign.
Ruben Amorim’s side were only able to net 44 goals in the Premier League last season, which led to them quickly seeking new acquisitions to rid their woes.
United were able to immediately attain their top target in Matheus Cunha for £62.5million before turning their attention to Bryan Mbeumo, whom they eventually signed for £71million in an everlasting saga.
Despite strengthening their attack heavily, the Reds are still seeking a new striker to lead the line and are nearing the signing of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. However, the potential arrival of Sesko could see Rasmus Højlund head for the exit.
Sesko’s arrival could send Højlund packing
On his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated, “If Sesko goes to Manchester United, at that point, Rasmus Højlund could leave Man United.”
The football insider added, “Højlund is saying, obviously, that he wants to stay at Manchester United, he wants to fight for his place, but if Man United sign a top striker like Sesko, Højlund can still leave the club.
“No one from Man United told Højlund, ‘you have to go, you have to leave,’ but obviously if a top striker like Benjamin Sesko joins Manchester United, for Højlund it could be time to go and leave the club.
“Don’t forget the interest from Italy, especially from AC Milan, who are looking for a striker. At the moment, financially, it’s still considered too expensive; it’s not the only option, because Milan are also considering a move for Dusan Vlahovic.”
United’s perfect transfer ‘collapsed’
As reported by various outlets, Leipzig made a shock proposal to United in the negotiations for Sesko, which would have seen the Danish striker included in the deal on loan.
This would have been the ideal scenario for United, as not only would it provide them with a new, top-quality number nine, but it would also allow Højlund to develop elsewhere, rather than sitting on the bench all season.
Unfortunately for Amorim’s side, this bubble has now been burst, with Romano explaining how this perfect scenario can not come to fruition.
The reliable insider said, “Man United and Leipzig discussed the possibility to include Højlund in the deal for Benjamin Sesko last week, but this is not possible; the player is not keen on the move, so that option collapsed immediately.”
