Fabrizio Romano explains reason behind Bryan Mbeumo delays, it’s out of Manchester United’s control

Manchester United are still continuing to push Brentford in negotiations to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo for Rúben Amorim this summer.

Manchester United are still in negotiations over what would be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, with a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo moving closer to completion.

Rúben Amorim is looking to strengthen his attacking options further after bringing in Cunha, although talks with Brentford regarding Mbeumo have been slow to progress.

An initial £55 million bid for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June. A second offer, which included the same base fee along with £7.5 million in add-ons, was also turned down.

Despite the delays, there is increasing confidence that an agreement will be reached. Once a conclusion is finalised regarding Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford, United are expected to focus on player departures and continue their search for a striker and midfielder ahead of the Premier League’s mid-August kick-off.

Romano speaks on latest Mbeumo delays

The continued lack of news surrounding United’s pursuit of Mbeumo remains a cause of frustration for fans, with the initial deadline of having the 25-year-old in the squad for pre-season having passed.

United have not lodged a third bid since their two previous attempts were rejected, although sources continue to indicate that they are ready to do so. According to Fabrizio Romano, the latest set of delays is largely beyond United’s control.

Detailing in his latest GiveMeSport newsletter, the transfer specialist explained that United are continuing to try and secure the player, but that the current timing of the transfer is also dependent on Brentford – something that United have little control over.

Brentford have been busy in the summer window this week, having had to reject a fresh offer from Nottingham Forest of below £25 million to secure Yoane Wissa.

They have also been finalising an exit for Christian Nørgaard to join Arsenal, and are set to secure Jordan Henderson on a free transfer after the England international opted against signing a contract extension with Ajax.

Romano continued by explaining that Mbeumo’s move to United is still “on,” but there remains a lack of confirmation that any sort of transfer has been completed.

United still hopeful of securing Brentford before the United States

United’s players returned to Carrington this week to commence pre-season training, and new arrivals Cunha and Leon were both present.

However, the latest news from Sky Sports suggests that the club remain confident that a final agreement with Brentford could be reached before the club fly to the United States to play Bournemouth, Everton, and West Ham in the Premier League summer series later this month.

Elsewhere, it has been reported that even Mbeumo is growing frustrated with the lack of progress over the last two weeks.

With the player set to report back to Brentford training next week, he will be back in England, which could speed up the process.
