Bryan Mbeumo has now returned to Brentford training and Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest update on his Manchester United move.
Manchester United remain in pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with negotiations stretching over a month as the club aims to complete its third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
Ruben Amorim is keen to bolster his attacking options further, but discussions with Brentford have progressed slowly.
United’s initial bid in early June—£45 million plus £10 million in add-ons—was rejected, as was an improved offer of £55 million with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related bonuses.
The club has taken a measured approach in talks, reluctant to meet Brentford’s full valuation. However, with pre-season already underway and Mbeumo originally expected to have joined by now, the ongoing delay is becoming increasingly apparent.
Fabrizio Romano explains latest Mbeumo development
The latest development in this transfer saga came on Monday afternoon, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the Bees have shown initial interest in Omari Hutchinson.
The significance of this is that Romano detailed the Ipswich Town winger as a ‘possible replacement for Bryan Mbeumo’ in the case of his exit.
While it was also clarified that there have been no club-to-club contacts for Hutchinson, many believe that this is a step in the right direction as Brentford are preparing for life without their star forward.
This follows on from other reports which have claimed that the expectation is for United to finally complete a deal this week before Amorim’s squad departs on their pre-season tour.
Mbeumo returns to Brentford training
Meanwhile, Mbeumo has finally returned to England this week after an extending holiday period in the United States.
Earlier reports claimed that the 25-year-old was initially anticipated to return for pre-season last week like the rest of Brentford’s squad but he was given until the following week despite not playing in international fixtures over the summer.
According to Brentford expert Bfcgpg on X, Mbeumo was present in Brentford team training on Monday. There have not been any official images posted by the club yet.
Many United fans have suspected that a move for the forward could accelerate when he is back in England, and now that time has come.
