Fabrizio Romano explains Kobbie Mainoo loan update as Manchester United midfielder receives compelling offer

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update regarding Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, amid rumours of a potential January loan move.

Manchester United have turned their poor form from the early weeks of the season around, with 10 points from their last four Premier League fixtures.

The Reds have been good money for their recent success, and a lot of this can be attributed to summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens, who have both played pivotal roles of late.

Despite the club’s recent form, there are still question marks surrounding the future of a couple of United’s stars, with Kobbie Mainoo still struggling to work his way into the starting XI.

Mainoo asked to leave the club on a loan basis during the final weeks of the summer window, although this wish was not granted, and he has since been left to fight for a spot with captain Bruno Fernandes.

Romano provides Mainoo update

When speaking on the Here We Go YouTube podcast, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano provided an update regarding the English youngster’s situation and explained the possibility of a loan move.

“It’s another interesting situation to follow for January,” Romano said, “Because Kobbie Mainoo had this desire to go on the final weeks of the summer transfer window that was not possible because Man United coach Ruben Amorim said no.

“But, Kobbie Mainoo is still not playing on a regular basis at Man United, and so, Kobbie would still be open for a loan move in the January transfer window.

“It’s on United now; they need to decide what they want to do. Kobbie would like to go and play, straight loan, six months, and then back to Man United, but now it depends on the club.

“It depends on if Man United will find another player in the middle. It depends on what Ruben Amorim wants to do, because the desire for Amorim would be to keep the same squad.”

Where could Mainoo go?

With a short loan potentially being on the cards for United’s talented 20-year-old, it then begs the question as to where he could possibly end up.

The Italian transfer expert continued by saying, “So let’s see what’s going to happen there. There is interest from England, West Ham, for example, for sure offering a guaranteed starting spot to Kobbie Mainoo.

“There is interest from Italy, also Napoli are looking for a midfielder after the injury of Kevin De Bruyne, and Kobbie Mainoo has always been on the shortlist. So for sure, Kobbie is going to be one to watch depending on what Man United want to do.”

This will definitely be a story to watch out for over the coming months, especially considering how Mainoo will be desperate to work his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England plans ahead of the summer World Cup.
