Fabrizio Romano delivers significant Manchester United transfer update, star ‘is NOT untouchable’
Manchester United are looking to make sales in the January transfer window in order to make room for new signings in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Manchester United entered the 2025 January transfer window in a difficult position, struggling after four consecutive losses in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
Their first game of the New Year was a positive away draw against rivals Liverpool, but the problems at the club remain.
Ruben Amorim, who is trying to focus on getting results, faces the difficult task of revamping a squad desperately in need of reinforcements.
However, the club’s financial troubles, stemming from heavy spending during Erik ten Hag’s stint in charge at Old Trafford, complicates the situation.
Amorim needs improved wingback options as soon as possible as well as signings in other areas around the pitch. Most of that will likely need to wait until the summer.
But the Reds must start looking to offload some of the existing squad now to generate as much cash as possible in terms of transfer fees and wages.
Romano delivers Casemiro transfer update
Casemiro was one player who many were expecting to depart last summer, with various links to the Saudi Pro League.
However, a deal was not made and the Brazilian was having quite a good season under Ten Hag before the managerial change.
Amorim has come in and Casemiro does not appear to suit what he wants to do. The manager has spoken about the importance of athleticism and keeping the ball, two things that Casemiro is not an expert in at 32 years of age.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Casemiro could be one to watch this month, with a possible mid-season move to Saudi Arabia on the cards.
“Casemiro, keep an eye on Casemiro,” the Italian journalist began while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“My understanding is that Casemiro could leave Manchester United between the January window and the summer based on opportunities from Saudi.
“They have always had an interest in Casemiro but they were not able to reach an agreement with the player, let’s see what happens now.
“Casemiro could be his the way out of Manchester United in the January transfer window, otherwise it could be the summer.
“But Casemiro is not untouchable at all for Manchester United.”
United need midfield reinforcements
Casemiro will not be the only midfielder leaving the club, with Christian Eriksen also available for a January transfer. If that doesn’t occur, the Dane will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
That leaves United with minimal options in the midfield, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte the two main options.
Bruno Fernandes can drop back in that position while Toby Collyer is also in and around the squad, although the 20-year-old could be loaned out this month.

That makes links to the likes of Ederson from Atalanta understandable, and United may need to act fast if sales are made this month.
