Fabrizio Romano delivers mixed update on important Manchester United transfer
Fabrizio Romano has provided a mixed update on one important Manchester United transfer this summer.
The Reds are planning to make additions in defence in the coming months after Raphaël Varane departed Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s side were plagued with injuries in the backline last term and INEOS are aiming to ensure that it is not repeated next season.
Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt have been heavily linked in recent weeks, and Fabrizio Romano has explained the situation regarding the Dutch centre-back.
He has explained that while United have approached the player’s representatives, a move will likely not materialise until after Euro 2024.
“Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United could be one to watch this summer as we know they’ve been exploring the market for centre-backs,” Romano detailed on his Daily Briefing.
“There’s now been contact between Man United and De Ligt’s representatives, but we may have to wait a bit longer for something more concrete to happen.
“At the moment De Ligt doesn’t want any distraction during the Euros, but for sure Man United made contact with his agent to understand the situation.
“United are considering a move – nothing is decided yet but he’s one of the names on their list. There’s still no proposal from United or any other club.”
The club’s pre-season campaign begins next week, and United need additions as soon as possible.
