Fabrizio Romano delivers Man Utd blow with Premier League rivals set to “go big” for ‘concrete’ target

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that one of Manchester United’s rivals are set to “go big” for one of Rúben Amorim’s possible summer transfers.

Manchester United have turned their focus to signing a new centre-forward as Rúben Amorim looks to further strengthen his attacking options.

Bruno Fernandes finished as the club’s leading scorer last season with 19 goals, while just three other players managed to reach double figures across all competitions.

In a bid to address their goalscoring problems, United have spent £127.5 million to sign Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who scored 15 and 20 Premier League goals respectively.

With both wingers now in the squad, Amorim is now targeting a striker to spearhead United’s attack.

United have still not bid for Šeško

In the last couple of weeks, United’s three possible striker options have become clear, with Benjamin Šeško, Nicolas Jakson, and Ollie Watkins all of interest to the club if their initial asking prices drop.

However, while Šeško may be the most appealing long-term option, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United are yet to submit any official proposal to his current side, RB Leipzig, or enter into discussions with the player.

“My understanding, first point, is that Benjamin Šeško, at the moment, there is still no official bid, no official negotiation with Manchester United,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel.

“Man United have discussed Šeško internally. It’s been an internal discussion on several strikers, Šeško, Nicolas Jackson, [and] Ollie Watkins.

“On Benjamin Šeško, this conversation internally continues, but, at the moment, there is still no official bid, no official negotiation with Leipzig.”

United dealt major Šeško transfer warning

However, in what will no doubt be a further blow to United after seeing several of their first-choice striker options depart elsewhere, Romano further clarifies that Newcastle are firmly rivalling them in the race for the 22-year-old.

The Italian transfer expert explained that Newcastle plan to “go big” with their proposal to the Slovenian international, who is a concrete target for the Tyneside club.

“Newcastle are on Benjamin Šeško, plan to go big, with the proposal to the player, presenting the project and offering an important salary, and also important to say that they want to approach Leipzig as soon as they feel that the player is ready to say yes,” Romano clarified.

“So Newcastle are going big for Benjamin Šeško. Newcastle want the player, and this can be an important indication also for the future of Alexander Isak.”

If United want to make sure they do not lose out on yet another striker target, they may have to dip into the market sooner rather than later.
