Fabrizio Romano confirms Victor Osimhen to Manchester United “ideal scenario” transfer boost

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a boost for Manchester United amid their pursuit of Victor Osimhen as he outlines Napoli’s “ideal scenario” this summer.

One of Manchester United’s most pressing concerns in recent seasons has been their lack of a consistent goal threat.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have been the only reliable sources of goals, with the former having scored 30 times during the 2022/23 campaign.

However, with the England international expected to leave Old Trafford following his loan stint at Aston Villa and Fernandes starting to operate as a deeper midfielder under Rúben Amorim, serious questions remain about the quality and depth of United’s attacking options.

Rasmus Højlund has shown flashes of potential, but he still looks too raw to lead the line on his own. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee appears more comfortable playing off a traditional number nine rather than acting as the main striker himself.

With the summer transfer window approaching, United are already assessing reinforcements, and reports indicate that Victor Osimhen is high on their list of targets.

Romano confirms Osimhen transfer latest

With Osimhen’s future a significant topic of discussion across the last few months, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now delivered the latest on his transfer situation.

The Italian journalist has confirmed several pieces of news. First, he explained that Osimhen is expected to leave his current club, Galatasaray, this summer following a one-season loan and return to the Serie A outfit Napoli.

Secondly, it is also stated that Napoli’s “ideal scenario” is to sell the player as soon as they possibly can rather than go through another drawn-out process that heads late into the window.

“The expectation is for Victor Osimhen to leave Galatasaray for sure, he’s going back to Napoli from the loan deal. The indication I am getting is Napoli want to sell the player as soon as possible,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“Forget Osimhen saga end of July, end of August as we had last summer. Osimhen was moving in September last summer, Napoli don’t want to enter the same situation, so it’s closed at €75 million (£63 million) but Napoli are open to finding a different solution, even before, as soon as possible.

“In June, that’s the ideal scenario for Napoli for Osimhen, Napoli will sell Osimhen, he will not stay at Napoli and Osimhen will not continue at Galatasaray.”

The news that Napoli’s “ideal scenario” is to offload the player early and secure a transfer is certainly a boost for United as it would allow the two clubs to talk candidly in negotiations and potentially see United agree a fee lower than the £63 million they would otherwise need to commit to sign him.

United must sign Osimhen over Delap this summer

With United looking to bring in a new striker, Osimhen is not the only player they are reportedly considering purchasing in the 2025 window.

Other reports have also stated that the club are big fans of Liam Delap, with technical director Jason Wilcox familiar with the 22-year-old from his time with Manchester City’s Academy.

Although Delap will no doubt grow into a top striker in the future, he is not what United need right now.

United’s lack of goals means a striker must be brought in who is more reliable with respect to finishing off the chances he is given at an elite rate as well as create his own when needed.

Although Delap is fantastic and represents a great purchase for £40 million, United should be looking to make sure Osimhen is the striker through the door this summer.
